Between the years 1940 and 1941, someone was responsible for the deaths of 5–6 people with their bodies found dumped near Sacramento, California.

At least five men were killed, but possibly more have yet to be attributed to the same killer. All of the men were about middle-aged and killed in different ways. The killer was never caught but his killing-spree earned him the name of Sacramento Mad Killer.

What is strangest about this case is that it seems like it also might be a cover up. Read below to find out more.

The bodies and victims

In June of 1940, an unidentified individual was discovered deceased in a field in Sutter County. The precise cause of death remained elusive due to the significant decomposition of the body. Nearly a year later, on August 31, 1941, another unidentified body was found mere hundreds of yards away. It was conjectured that both individuals met their demise simultaneously, though the link to murders in 1941 was speculative and ultimately unconfirmed.

On August 18, 1941, two men were discovered severely beaten in a Sacramento field. Alfred Reed, hailing from Davis, succumbed to a skull fracture eight days later in the hospital, while John Saunders from Santa Barbara endured a pelvic fracture and was…
