Six murders and several rapes occurred in Raleigh, North Caroline between January and December 1996. These horrific acts were attributed to a series of events known as the Raleigh Murders.

However, investigation lead to the truth that this wasn’t the workings of one serial killer, but several killers. Two of the killers have been caught, but three of the murders remain unsolved.

The murders

Patricia Ashe: On January 7th, 1996, the body of 33-year-old Ashe was found naked laying on a bench. She was found by a local resident and was reportedly a known drug addict. Her clothes were found under her body and an autopsy revealed that she was strangled to death. It also concluded that she had defensive wounds which means she had put up a fight.

Dewanna Burt: On January 17th, this 36-year-old victim was found with a single gunshot wound to the back of the head in a parking lot.

Patricia Gwendolyn: On June 13th, the next victim was found in the woods inside Oakwood Cemetery, across the street from where she lived. She was 38-years-old at the time of her death.

Dawn Marie Grandy: The body of a homeless women was found on July 13th. She was found in a homeless camp under the Morgan Street Bridge.
